Lorcan Tucker: “In cricket, it’s the next ball that matters”

Before the series against Pakistan, Irish wicketkeeper-batter Lorcan Tucker spoke about the benefits of playing overseas and learning from the very best in franchise leagues around the globe.

Tucker has experience playing for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League, Paarl Royals in the SA20, Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League and MI Emirates in the ILT20.

These three T20I matches in Clontarf will give Ireland Men a great look at the team they will face on 16th June in Florida at the T20 World Cup. However, Lorcan has some extra experience of the opposition he might be able to share.

On playing around the world in franchise cricket, Tucker said:

“Yes, I’ve enjoyed it a lot. Meeting new people and playing in new places – it’s one of the best things about the modern game. I think it’s been brilliant to see how other people see and read the game. There’s a world of knowledge out there in franchise cricket and it’s been so valuable for me as a player to be involved in it.”

On playing in the Pakistan Super League and playing with some of the current Pakistani squad:

“I had a brief stint with Lahore Qalandars in the PSL this year and got to know a few of their lads who are in this squad. All great players and lovely men so will be nice to welcome them here. We’ve got them now and in Florida in a few weeks time though so things won’t be too cosy for sure.”

On playing in the United States of America at the upcoming T20 World Cup:

“The US is a great place to play cricket. Things are really moving along quickly over there and they’re building a great system for the future. Playing in New York is something for all of us to cherish as cricketers and will definitely be one of the highlights of my careers.

“We’ve played against each of our Group Stage opponents a bit in the recent past and have had some success against them, but as the cricketing proverb goes: “it’s the next ball that matters”, so I think it’s fair to say that will be both mine and the team’s mindsets going into the tournament.”
