Meet the coaches and support staff for Ireland Women's squad

Ed Joyce
Ireland Women's head coach

Joyce is one of Ireland's best-ever cricketers. Debuting for Ireland in 1997, he played 151 times for Ireland, scoring 5,552 runs at 40.82 which included 10 centuries and 29 half-centuries.

Joyce, who also played for England from 2006 to 2010, retired in 2018 after playing in Ireland Men's inaugural Test match against Pakistan.

He worked as a batting consultant for Ireland Men in 2018, before being named interim head coach of Ireland Women in 2019 - confirmed as full-time head coach later that year.

Glenn Querl
Women’s Performance & Pathway Coach

Appointed to role in 2021, Glenn has coached across a range of sports since 2007 in Zimbabwe, South Africa, England and Ireland, and holds an ICC Cricket Coaching Level 3 Coach certificate, as well as formal cricket coaching qualifications in South Africa.

He was appointed Scorchers Head Coach for the 2020 season, and has been a coaching consultant with the Ireland Women’s squad since mid-2020. In 2019, Querl also worked with the national underage boys and girls system.

Catherine Simpson
Women's & International Pathways Physiotherapist

Catherine was appointed to the role in 2017. She worked as a contractor until 2021 when she decided to leave her position as Lead Physiotherapist at Dublin Sports Clinic to pursue the Cricket Ireland role full-time.

Catherine qualified with BSc. Physiotherapy from Trinity College Dublin in 2014 and went on to complete a MSc. Sports and Exercise Medicine in 2016. Catherine has also worked across other sports most noticeably Paralympics Ireland Cycling Squad and Railway Union Women’s 1st XI rugby team.

Calum Burdett
Women's Strength & Conditioning Coach

Calum was appointed in November 2023.

Jay Shelat
Performance Analyst

Appointed to the role in 2019, Jay is primarily involved with the National Women’s side as a Performance Analyst. In addition to his current role Jay has been involved within the Irish U19 Boys / Girls and Ireland Wolves set up in similar capacity.

Jay holds a Bachelor’s in Business Studies and Msc in Strategy and Planning. Outside cricket, he has 6+ years of experience in areas of Performance Imporvement / Strategy / Change Management and Digital Transformation.

Beth Healy
Team Operations Manager (Women's)

Beth was appointed to the role in 2019. Graduating from university with a BSc Hons Sports & Exercise Science, she has gained eight years experience in event management, team administration and logistics.

Prior to joining Cricket Ireland, Beth was Games Team Manager for The Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Council (NICGC) for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018.

Beth's current role sees her manage the end-to-end team logistics relating to events, training camps, matches and tours both domestically and internationally. She is also  appointed as venue manager and match manager periodically within the Irish performance system.
