Coaching Focus

“It’s easy to lose girls in sport, so it’s very important to encourage and support.”

Youth coach Hannah Pasley reflects on her own experience of getting involved with cricket and then her journey into the world of coaching at both club and provincial level.

Pasley’s own youth coaches encouraged her to try everything, and what she found worked for her in her playing days, works now in her coaching roles.

Now a club youth coach for Clontarf CC and Cricket Leinster, Hannah has seen in action the vital role female coaches play in helping teenage girls remain involved, confident and connected to the game.

As part of Women in Sport Week 2026, Pasley talks about the challenges she faced becoming a coach, how she adapted and moved into provincial coaching.

“I think playing for a team is so important,” she said. “The life lessons playing sport gives you is incredible; you learn commitment…that you have to work through the hard times.”

Hannah’s message during #WISWeek2026 is clear: retaining players, girls in particular, requires intentional support and it requires coaches who understand that it is often more about being part of a team than about your performance.
