Second quick win in a row for Leinster Lightning

They beat North West Warriors by 6 wickets in the IP50.

DUBLIN – Off the back of their rapid IP20 win the day before, the home side almost repeated the trick in their IP50 tie.

Like yesterday, North West Warriors captain Andy McBrine won the toss and elected to bat first. But not long after they were again in trouble.

From 60-3, they fell to 80-5, 111-7 and then eventually were bowled out for 129 all out in the 34th over in Pembroke Cricket Club.

Leg-spinner Gavin Hoey maintained his good form for the Lightning taking 4 for 30 from his 10 overs. Harry Tector was also impressive with his part-time off spin claiming 3 for 27 along with the final Warriors wicket.

With 130 to get, the home side went out to chase before lunch and made short work of the total. They lost four wickets but won in the 22nd over with opener Andrew Balbirnie finishing 57 not out.

The bonus point win keeps Leinster Lightning in the race with Northern Knights and Munster Reds for this year’s IP50 cup while they have the IP20 trophy already in the bag.

All eyes now move to the final two rounds of the IP season with Munster Reds traveling up to Bready next week, and then Leinster Lightning facing off against Northern Knights in Oak Hill.
