South African-born Tom arrived in Northern Ireland in April 2021, with an Irish passport courtesy of his paternal grandmother who was born in Dublin. He was called up to the Northern Knights that same year, then received his first international call-up for Ireland Men’s tours of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in early 2023.

Tom was also included in Ireland’s 15-player squad that toured England to play a warm-up game and Test match against England at Lord’s. He made his First-class debut in the Essex v Ireland match before the Lord’s Test, claiming 4-68 and 3-55.
