Tom Mayes

South African-born Tom arrived in Northern Ireland in April 2021, with an Irish passport courtesy of his paternal grandmother who was born in Dublin. He was called up to the Northern Knights that same year, then received his first international call-up for Ireland Men’s tours of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in early 2023.

Tom had to wait, though, to make it onto the field. He did so in Clontarf, Dublin, when he faced the West Indies in May 2025. He had a dream start when he took the wicket of West Indies captain, Shai Hope, helping Ireland to a 124-run victory. Mayes played a second game in that series but has not managed to nail down a spot in the playing XI since then. However, he did make his debut in Test cricket against New Zealand in Belfast in May 2026.
