WINDHOEK, Namibia – Ireland Men’s T20I captain Paul Stirling will return home today after breaking his ring finger on his left hand while fielding against Namibia yesterday – Tim Tector will fly out to replace Stirling for the remainder of the tour.
Stirling broke his finger in the 15th over of the match – fielding at short cover, he dived for a low catch from a full-blooded cut shot from Jan Frylinck which hit his fingertip and caused the break. A hospital assessment yesterday evening confirmed the injury and Stirling will now return home for recovery and rehabilitation.
Tim Tector will replace Stirling for the remaining two matches of the series – he is uncapped in ODIs but has played 8 T20Is for Ireland and enjoyed a successful European T20 Premier League stint last month. Following this series, Tector will then join the Ireland Wolves squad in Zimbabwe.
