OAK HILL, Wicklow – It was a rain-affected day at the picturesque Oak Hill, but enough overs were bowled in the day’s second match to give the Dragons the points and move the Team in Red to the top of the T20 Trophy table.
In the first game of the day, the Scorchers won the toss and elected to bat under dark skies. Leah Paul (40 off 28 balls), Alice Tector (34 off 38 balls) and Gaby Lewis (26 off 20 balls) had put their side in a decent position heading into the final five overs, but on 109-4 after 15.3 overs the heavens opened and rain ended what was shaping up as an intriguing encounter.

Game Two remarkably started on time despite the earlier downpour, with the Scorchers again winning the toss, but this time they chose to bowl first.
Their opponents, the Dragons, struggled to build momentum after tight disciplined bowling. Orla Prendergast’s 36 (off 31 balls) was the only innings of true authority, however Arlene Kelly struck two late sixes to catapult the Dragons from 86-6 to 108-6 off the last two overs.
Niamh MacNulty (3-21) was amongst the wickets, but Aimee Maguire’s 1-8 off four overs was a masterful display.
With weather radars showing showers were closing in, the Scorchers started sprightly but soon lost the wickets of Gaby Lewis (20) and Alice Tector (13) – and with them, the hopes of a DLS win began to drift away.
At 44-5 in the 11th over, the rain became too heavy to ignore the play was suspended.
Unfortunately, play did not restart and the game was called handing a DLS win to the Dragons – and with it, the Dragons move to the top of the table with two games each to play.
