Gareth Morrison and Roly Black will gain experience officiating red-ball cricket in Zimbabwe

Two Irish International umpires – Gareth Morrison and Roly Black – have joined an Umpire Exchange Programme supported by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in Zimbabwe this winter to gain more experience in the red-ball format.

Gareth Morrison is standing in the two four-day red-ball matches being played by the Ireland Wolves and Zimbabwe A at Harare Sports Club, beginning today. Roly Black will take the same journey in January when he will stand in two domestic four-day matches.

The trips are part of an ICC exchange program and will give the two Irish umpires the opportunity to gain more experience in the longer format of the game.

Speaking about the appointments, Match Officials Manager Phil Thompson said:

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Wonder Chisango, General Manager of Cricket Affairs of Zimbabwe Cricket, for his help ensuring these appointments were possible. With the lack of red-ball domestic cricket in Ireland, it is important that our umpires gain experience where they can, and we are grateful to Zimbabwe Cricket for facilitating us in this endeavour.”
