Dominic Ostler joins Ireland Women's coaching staff as batting consultant

DUBLIN – Former Warwickshire Women & Birmingham Bears Women’s 1st XI Head Coach, Dominic Ostler, has joined the Ireland Women’s coaching staff as a batting consultant for a busy summer of cricket ahead for the team.

Currently working as the Batting Coach in the South Asian Cricket Academy in England, the right-handed Warwickshire native played 205 first-class matches for Warwickshire County Cricket Club between 1990 and 2004, with a highest score of 225 against Yorkshire.

Ostler was appointed in October 2018 to lead the women’s team at Warwickshire, guiding them to success and preparing them for professional, high-level competition. He also coached with Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred –  a role that saw him work with the likes of Ellyse Perry, Amy Jones and Sophie Devine.

Speaking about the appointment, Graeme West – Director of High Performance at Cricket Ireland – said:

“We are delighted that Dom has agreed to join the Ireland Women’s coaching ranks for the summer. He not only brings a wealth of experience from his first-class cricket career at Warwickshire but has developed into a highly-respected coach after retirement – and has been doing sterling work at the South Asian Cricket Academy.

“Coming in as a batting consultant, Dom will be present at all women’s international fixtures this summer, coach at selected training sessions during April–May and maintain remote oversight of domestic cricket.

“Dom has worked with [head coach] Lloyd Tennant previously, so we look forward to a smooth transition into the role.”

Dominic Ostler said:

“I am excited to be joining up with Cricket Ireland in a consultancy coaching role and am really looking forward to what will be an exciting few months ahead with the Women’s squad.

“To be able to work with the squad in the build up to the T20 World Cup campaign and then throughout the tournament will be a real honour and I’m looking forward to getting into the role.

“My thanks go to all at Cricket Ireland for giving me this opportunity and of course to all at SACA too for supporting my decision to join up with Cricket Ireland.”
