Wins for Leinster U15 & NWCU U15 on day two

Marcus Poskitt top scored with 54 as the North West defeated Southern XI in a close encounter at Phoenix on a day that also saw Leinster get their second win of the tournament.
Opening the batting, Poskitt’s watchful stay of 54 lasted 114 balls and included four boundaries from the wicket keeper batsman as he guided the North West to the brink of victory before falling in the 46th over. Matthew Hutchinson finished on 32 not out, as the North West successfully chased down the Southern XI’s 188 for the loss of 7 wickets with just 9 balls to spare.

For the Southern XI, skipper Aaron O’Neill was the pick of the bowlers taking 2-38 off his 10 overs including two maidens. Aaron Cawley was also in the wickets taking 2-24 off his 6 overs, while there was a wicket apiece for Sean Stanton, Senan Jones and Sanil Gupta.

Earlier, Kaasim Alam Baloch got the Southern XI off to a strong start with 26 opening the batting, with Gupta (22) and Andrew Brawders (25) also passing the 20-mark. Diarmuid Carey (17) hit three boundaries at the tail end of the innings to help his side to 188 all out in the final over.

Varun Chopra led from the front with the ball, picking up 3-22 from his 10 overs, with Reece Logue also taking three wickets.

Next door in Phoenix, Leinster extended their lead at the top of the tournament table with a 7 wicket win over the NCU thanks to a brilliant century from Rory McGovern.

McGovern carried his bat to finish unbeaten on 121 as Leinster successfully chased down NCU’s 220-9. He ended the match with Sean Currie (23) as the home side knocked off the runs with just less than 10 overs to spare.

For the NCU Jack Carson and Ben Rose both made 40, with John Glass hitting 47. For Leinster JJ Garth (4-40) and Ian Anders (3-44) shared 7 wickets between them.

The competition concludes tomorrow with Leinster taking on NWCU at Rush, while NCU play Southern XI at North County.
