Toyota Super 3’s Begins This Weekend

The Toyota Super 3’s gets underway this weekend when the Dragons take on the Typhoons in a 50-over match at YMCA.
The tournament was officially launched in early April, with the exciting news that Toyota would sponsor the tournament in its second season.

Laura Delany will captain the Dragons for the first time after being made captain at the same time as she was made Ireland captain. She will potentially have several debutants in her team, with Louise McCarthy, Lara Maritz and Caoimhe McCann all being added to the squad for the new season.

McCarthy recently completed a transfer from the Typhoons, with Maritz moving from the defending champions Scorchers, while McCann, who plays her club cricket at Malahide with Maritz, was not involved in the competition last season.

McCarthy will strengthen the bowling attack for the Dragons after the news that Rebecca Stokell will not be able to play for the vast majority of the season, and she will make her first appearance for her new team against her former teammates at the Typhoons.

Clare Shillington has taken over as coach of the Typhoons who have also made some significant signings over the winter months with Leah Paul and Robyn Lewis both moving from the Scorchers, with Ellen Ridgeway, who did not play last season and was originally a Scorcher, also making a late move to the Typhoons.

All three are down to make their first Typhoons appearance, and they will be joined by Cath Dalton, who made her debut towards the end of last season, but will be available for the full Toyota Super 3’s season this year.

Sunday’s match will see up to eight of Ireland’s recent World T20 squad playing at the start of the domestic season as they, and the rest of the players involved in the Toyota Super 3’s look to impress ahead of a very busy Ireland summer schedule, which will see them play both South Africa and Bangladesh.

The match will get underway at 1pm in YMCA, and entry is free for all games in the Toyota Super 3’s Series, which will see the three sides battle it out in both 50-over and Twenty20 fixtures across the summer.
