Simi Singh’s brilliant innings of 97 ensured Ireland Wolves finished their tour of England on a high note with a comprehensive 62-run win over Gloucestershire 2nd XI.
Singh – who was confirmed as an Irish citizen this week at a ceremony in Dublin – celebrated in style as he took just 57 balls to reach his 97 (9 fours, 3 sixes) dominating an Irish total of 190 for 7.

Batting first, Ireland lost early wickets with James Shannon, Jack Tector, and David Rankin all going cheaply to leave them in trouble at 41 for 3.

Skipper Getkate steadied the ship with Singh, scoring 36 from 29 deliveries (2 fours, 1 six) as they added 67 for the 4th wicket.

Tyrone Kane and James McCollum both went quickly and the game was in the balance at 124 for 6, but Jamie Grassi provided firepower down the order as he and Singh added 63 in the last 5 overs. Grassi’s undefeated 26 took just 12 balls and included four boundaries.

Gloucestershire’s reply never got going as the disciplined Irish attack built pressure throughout, never relinquishing their grip on the contest.

Singh (2-25) followed up his batting heroics with a fine effort with the ball, while Nathan Smith (1-19), and Shane Getkate (1-15) were the other wicket takers as the hosts limped to 128 for 5.

Speaking after the game, Singh was delighted to make a match winning contribution to another victory for the Wolves.

“I’m obviously delighted with both my personal performance and the fact that it helped the team seal an impressive win,” said Singh. “I wasn’t too disappointed to miss out on the hundred. I didn’t know what I was on, my main focus was to get as many runs as possible for the team in the final overs.

“I was happy with our total, I knew we had enough runs on the board if we bowled properly. I batted with great freedom down the order on Saturday, and I took that momentum into today’s game and tried to take it to the opposition and I’m delighted it paid off.”

Ireland Wolves are back in action next month when they will provide warm-up opposition for a Bangladesh XI and New Zealand XI on May 10 and 11 ahead of the Tri-Nation series in Dublin.
