Cricket Ireland have found their 500,000th follower on social media – Twitter user Simon Maher became the half millionth person to be #BackingGreen.
Cricket Ireland surpassed the mark last week, when all eyes were on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Vine and SnapChat to see who the 500,000th would be.
With the counter at 499,999, it was Simon (@simon8radio) that clicked the follow button, and to mark the occasion he dropped into Cricket Ireland to collect a special prize.
Simon was delighted to receive the prize, a bat signed by the Ireland & Australia teams, “I was very surprised to get a message to tell me I was the 500,000th follower of Cricket Ireland on Social Media. The signed bat is brilliant and might even encourage me to dig out my whites again! Roll on March 9th and our first World T20 game!”
Cricket Ireland’s presence on social media has gone from strength to strength, now commanding a following of well in excess of half a millions across all channels.
According to SportEGO’s most recent report, Cricket Ireland now has the second highest following amongst all the Irish Governing Bodies for sport sitting ahead of the FAI and GAA.
With the ICC World T20 just around the corner that following is set to increase even more with the #BackingGreen campaign really taking off.
