RSA Irish Cup Semi-Finals

Back
Back

The RSA Irish Senior Cup and National Cup finalists will be decided tomorrow, with the re-fixed semi-finals in both competitions taking place.
There’s guaranteed to be at least one Lenister representative in the Septemeber showpiece, with three Dublin based sides in action tomorrow.

At Sydney Parade it’s an all Leinster affair with Pembroke hosting last year’s champions and cup specialists Clontarf.

‘Tarf will be heading into tomorrow’s clash with no shortage of confidence after they lived up to that billing when the won the Leinster Senior Cup last month, beating Malahide by 44 runs at Milverton. Eoghan Delany led his side from the front that day with the bat scoring 57, while Joe Morrissey was in the wickets picking up 4-41.

Pembroke have had a good run of late in the Leinster League with four wins from their last six outings, and they’ll be looking to continue that form tomorrow. In the Tucker brothers, Fiachra and Lorcan, they have two of the brightest talents around, while Barry McCarthy’s form this season has already captured the attention of the national selectors and the Sandymount faithful will be hoping for big performances tomorrow.

The last time these two sides met was in June when Clontarf emerged on top, but only one place separates them in the table – tomorrow’s match is sure to be a close encounter.

In the other semi-final, 2012 winners The Hills make the trip to The Green to take on North Down who are in search of their first Irish Senior Cup title since 1995. The Comber side last appeared in the semi-final in 2000 when they lost out to Limavady. Ryan Haire was one of the top-scorers for North Down that day, and he will have a big role to play tomorrow if they are to lift the cup for the first time in 19 years.

In James Cameron-Dow they have one of the best spinners in the game and Peter Eakin has been putting in good performances for the Northern Knights, while Ireland’s newest international Nick Larkin can be destructive in the top order.

The Hills have had a mixed season in the league to date with four wins and six losses from their eleven outings, but some good wins in the LCU T20 tournament in the last number of weeks will give them confidence heading into tomorrow’s clash, particularly given that strike bowler and Ireland International Max Sorensen has been firing on all cylinders in that competition picking up 9 wickets for 46 runs in 14 overs over the last four games.

Meanwhile, the RSA National Cup nears it’s climax with the semi-finals line-up seeing Killyclooney take on Woodvale, while LCU side Dundrum take on Carrickfergus.

All matches in both competitions start at 12.30pm.
