Ireland Qualify for World Cup with Thailand win

Ireland Women leave for Thailand today, heading for the World T20 Qualifiers tournament in Bangkok where they will face The Netherlands, China and Zimbabwe in the group stage of the tournament.
Robyn Lewis, who will be taking part in her first global tournament, spoke to cricketireland.ie during the final training session in Ireland before the squad departed to talk about her own cricket and the importance on making a good start in Thailand.
“I think I’ve progressed a lot especially in the last while because myself I’ve been able to focus on my bowling over the last few weeks in North County here and I think I’ve progressed a lot and I’m more confident with myself.”
Speaking about the qualifying tournament Lewis highlighted the importance of the opening game against the Netherlands before outlining the expectation of the squad.
“The Netherlands in the first game of the tournament itself will be a huge game for us, if we do beat them and hopefully we should beat them quite well if things go our way, I think we’ll have good chance in the tournament.
“I think we should be qualifying and all of us know that so we’re all just looking forward to getting out there – the preparation has come to an end and we all just want to get on with it.”
The squad leave Dublin today and arrive in Thailand a week before that opening game with The Netherlands, playing Scotland and Thailand in two warm up games before the tournament proper. You can keep up to date with all the action on cricketireland.ie and through our social media channels.
