McGuire Stars as Ireland Under 15s Beat Surrey

Nathan McGuire’s half century helped Ireland Under 15’s beat their Surrey counterparts by an emphatic 93 runs in the second leg of their UK tour.
Rush top-order batsman McGuire was at his positive best as he struck 9 boundaries in a fluent 58 as the Irish posted 235 against the English county.

James Hunter chipped in with a valuable 38, while there also important innings from opener Archie Johnston (26) and skipper SJ De Klerk (22).

In reply Surrey were never able to break the stranglehold put on by the Boys In Green, as the bowling unit stuck to their task well, backed up by an athletic fielding display.

Scott Ruttle was the most successful of the bowlers taking 3 for 37, while Mitchell Thompson weighed in with an impressive 2 for 17. Levi Dougherty, Gavin Hoey, Nathan Doak and James Hunter were also among the wickets as Surrey were dismissed for 142.

The Irish are back in action on Wednesday when they play Hertfordshire in two T20 contests, before their tour concludes with a high profile clash against the West Indies.

Meanwhile in Cork, no play was possible between Ireland and Scotland Under 17’s on the first day of their Celtic Cup series.
