Sri Lanka have been the surprise package of the ICC Women’s World Cup so far, and Ireland will be watching their future rivals with interest as Sri Lanka are due to visit for the ICC Twenty20 World Cup Qualifiers this summer.
Sri Lanka’s women’s team have been a breath of fresh air in the ICC Women’s World Cup, reaching the Super Sixes ahead of hosts India who were left reeling after not making the second round of the competition. India were given notice, however, not to take the Sri Lankans lightly, when they beat world champions England the game before.
The Ireland women’s team have been watching it all with interest because Sri Lanka are one of the teams who will be visiting in July/August for the ICC Women’s Twenty20 Qualifiers. With another Super Six team South Africa, who lost to West Indies by two wickets today, also visiting and only one qualifying spot up for grabs, clinching that solitary spot will be a tough task for Ireland.

Australia are perched on top of the table with six points after their thrilling victory over the defending champions England early this morning. Australia were all out for just 147, but England were unable to reach the total, coming agonisingly close, falling two runs short on 145. New Zealand also won today, dismissing the surprise package of the group stages Sri Lanka with ease, getting them all out with for 103 and passing the total for the loss of only two wickets.

As it stands, New Zealand lie in second place behind Australia with four points. West Indies also have four points but are behind on net run-rate. Meanwhile, England find themselves in deep trouble on two points along with Sri Lanka, the former ahead on net run-rate, while South Africa lie in bottom place with no points.
