It was a much shortened day at Coleraine Cricket Club with only 40 overs possible as South Africa ground out a small first innings lead before a large amount of rain hit the ground
Sunshine greeted the teams this morning and there was no sign of the impending storm that was to hit the ground in the afternoon and South Africa A started cautiously as Van Zyl & Behardien added only 11 runs in 10 overs. That took the score to 120 for 4 before Stuart Thompson struck twice in an over to remove both batsmen. It was a welcome 21st birthday present for the young Limavady all-rounder who is having a fine season.

It was Ireland’s only joy of the day though as Heino Kuhn continued his good form on the tour of Ireland and compiled a formidable unbroken 108 run partnership with Ryan McClaren. Kuhn ended the day on 57 not out whilst McClaren is still there on 36 not out. Ireland tried 6 bowlers in the 40 overs play to no avail as the South Africans edged ahead in the match.

With just one day to go in the contest South Africa lead by 39 runs with 4 wickets remaining. The current scorecard is here
