For the first time ever Cricket Leinster ran an all-day event to promote the involvement of girls cricket at primary school level and will be called from now on “Leprechaun Cup ‘Cailíní’.
This event took place in Railway Union with the help of Elaine Coburn and Kenny Carroll. We had eight schools participate in the tournament.

Participating teams included:

1. Balrothery National School
2. Zion National School
3. Kill of the Grange
4. Mount Anville Montessori Junior School
5. Scoile Mhuire- Lakelands
6. Taney National School
7. Castleknock National School
8. Arch Bishop Ryan National School

The day, although threatened with bad weather was bright and overcast and allowed all games to go ahead uninterrupted.

We had some quality performances throughout the day with high execution of skills and sport(wo)manship!

“It was great to see such huge numbers wanting to be involved in the girls game, and so encouraging to see the initiative from Cricket Leinster to run this much desired event “ Said coach Caoilfhionn Rowan, Mount Anville/Kill of the Grange.

There was a trophy and medals awarded to the winner: Scoile Mhuire- Lakelands. They where undefeated in all of their matches and beat Balrothery (146-130) in the final.

“Hopefully we see lots more of these girls going on to play club cricket as the interest is definitely there” said Mervyn McDowell, teacher and head of sports, from Zion NS.

Many thanks to everyone who participated and the very enthusiastic volunteers that helped on the day and a special thanks to RSA for sponsoring the event.
