Greg Molins has been named by Cricket Ireland as the new national selector for Leinster.

The 39 year-old former Irish international takes over from Brian MacNeice with immediate effect.

Molins enjoyed an illustrious career in Leinster senior cricket, playing for Carlisle, Railway Union, and Clontarf.

The left-arm spinner played 25 times for Ireland between 1996 and 1999.

“I’d like to thank Brian MacNeice for his outstanding commitment and passion as a volunteer selector for the last 8 years,” said Cricket Ireland Performance Director Richard Holdsworth. “Brian has stood longer than any other as a national selector in recent decades, and has been involved in selecting the national team through two World Cups, four World T20’s and three ICC Intercontinental Cup victories.

“His input, passion and commitment as a volunteer has been outstanding over a long period, and it is people like Brian who work behind the scenes in key roles which often go unnoticed that helps progress our sport on this Island. We are indebted to his service not just to Cricket Ireland, but to Cricket Leinster where he has also served a Chairman of the Leinster Lightning selectors in its first two years in the Inter-Provincial Series. We hope he will remain involved in the game in some capacity in the future.”

He continued, “I’m sure Greg will do a fantastic job in his new role. He has a proven cricket pedigree and a great breadth of knowledge about the game, both domestically and internationally.”

Chairman of selectors, Alan Lewis commented: “We are delighted to welcome Greg to the team of Irish selectors. His international experience, the passion he has showed within the Leinster Lightning selection group will be invaluable for Ireland going forward as we look to meet the next set of challenges that are in front of us.”
