Peter Eakin blasted 74 from just 48 balls to help Ireland’s Under 19’s to a series win against The Netherlands at Rathmines today.

The North Down teenager struck 12 fours and 2 sixes in a fine exhibition of powerful, clean strokeplay as Ireland eased to a six wicket win chasing a Dutch total of 138 for 6.

Eakin was given excellent support by Lorcan Tucker, who hit 22 from 13 balls, and Adam Dennison who finished unbeaten on 15.

Tim Etman had dominated the Dutch total of 138 for 6, hitting 69 from just 48 balls (6 fours, 3 sixes), with Tonny Staal contributing a run a ball 33.

The Irish attack stuck to their task well, with two wickets apiece for Rishi Chopra (2-25), Bobby Gamble (2-28) and Rory Anders (2-28).

A closely fought, well contested series, with the Irish just about coming out on top after three days excellent cricket.

The Irish face Scotland at the end of the month in Ayr, with the winners picking up the ICC Europe Challenge Series trophy.
