It’s hard to believe a year has passed since Cricket Leinster ran the first Girl’s Easter training camp and it’s even harder to believe that its 18 degrees colder!
I’m sure the girls where happy to hear when we changed the venue from outdoor at Leinster Cricket Club to indoors at St Columbus College.

Even with the snowy conditions it didn’t effect the numbers attending and we averaged 30 player in each sessions with a total of 68 girls being coached over the three days.

Our aim was to provide the girls with some additional skills to add to what they have learnt over their winter sessions. It was a good opportunity for the girls to see where they stand at this early part of the season, and fine-tune anything for their upcoming club/school matches and inter-provincial fixtures along with their tours to the UK in August.

This year the girls where very fortunate to receive coaching from Cricket Leinster’s team of highly experienced coaches – Brian O’Rourke, Reinhardt Strydom, Kenny Carroll and Nigel Pyne. Also, the continued experience from Naomi Scott-Hayward and Laura Erskine who worked with the girls over the winter. We also had recently certified Women’s internationals on hand – Laura Delany, Louise McCarthy and Shauna Kavanagh.

Cricket Leinster is playing its part through these camps to improve the fast changing Women’s game and this year will see games played with a pink ball and coloured clothing after the success of the Super 3’s event run over the past few years.

Further, as my role over the summer will incorporate supporting the Leinster regional squads by offering 1:1 and small group coaching to identified players and targeting girls’ schools to develop club/school links around the province.
