Cricket For Good was created as the ICC’s global community outreach programme aimed at leveraging the vast power and reach of cricket to positively impact the lives of children and families worldwide. This afternoon saw the Ireland Men’s team getting involved in this great initiative.
The ICC’s Cricket For Good programme is a partnership with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and that partnership uses the ICC’s platform to advocate for children’s rights and health – specifically in areas of nutrition and child development, water and sanitation hygiene, quality education, empowering adolescents, child protection and child health, all aimed at improving children’s lives.

At this year’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament, the Cricket for Good programme involves teams helping to run cricket clinics for around 40 children at a time from local schools, where children receive t-shirts, caps and refreshments as part of the clinic, and all the cricket equipment used at the clinics is donated to schools in need. Participating kids also undergo life skills training (educating children about various social causes and general health, these sessions take place after the cricket clinics) and there is also a school spectator component that provides for schools to bus children to the venues on match days.

This afternoon was the turn of the Ireland Men’s team, who had a fantastic time with the kids at Harare Sports Club.

Great effort lads – hopefully we have a new generation of Irish supporters!
