One of very few female bowlers in the country who can swing the ball away from the right-hander, Alana continued to improve in the last 12 months. After finding her way back into the team during Ireland’s series against Sri Lanka and England late in the 2024 summer, Dalzell burst into the limelight when she came in at number nine and hit a boundary (her first in international cricket) off the final delivery of the third ODI against England to Ireland an historic win over England – only the second in Irish women’s cricket history.
Alana is the first woman from the North West of Ireland to become a professional cricketer. One of very few female bowlers in the country who can genuinely swing the ball away from the right-hander, she is able to take the new ball or come on later in the game and tie the opposition down.
Alana grew up playing in the men’s team for her club, Bready CC, and initially took to international cricket like the proverbial duck to water. After falling out of the senior side after a year, Alana fought her way back into the team during Ireland’s series against Sri Lanka and England late in the 2024 summer, and burst into the international limelight when she came in at number nine and hit a boundary (her first in international cricket) off the final delivery of the third ODI against England to Ireland an historic win over England – only the second in Irish women’s cricket history.
An excellent fielder, Alana anticipates better than most in the field, and her pace to the ball is eye-catching., she bowls with great energy and increasing control.
