Ireland and Scotland meet in three 40 over matches and one 20 over match this week in the Celtic Cup. Today the Ireland Under 17’s began the week with victory at Oak Hill.
The Ireland Under 17 Girls got their Celtic Cup campaign against Scotland off to a convincing start with a 10 wicket victory over Scotland at Oak Hill today.
After winning the toss and electing to field, Ireland had Scotland in trouble at 19/2 when Louise Little bowled both Watson and Scott.

Ireland’s bowling attack then shared the wickets as they bowled Scotland out for 73 in 22.4 overs. Cara Murray had the best figures with 3 for 6, but Little 2-9, Anna Kirk 2-21, Lara Maritz 1-9 and Sadhbh Breslin 1-5 all got in on the act with Breslin running out Fraser to complete the wickets.

In reply, Ireland’s openers Leah Paul and Ellen Ridgeway were on song from the off. They raced to an opening stand of 50 off just 5 overs. They quickly chased down the victory target of 74 in 8 overs, Paul finishing on an unbeaten 32, Ridgeway going one better to finish on 33.

All in all it amounted to a comprehensive victory for the Irish in the first 40 over match of this week’s Celtic Cup. The sides meet again tomorrow at Oak Hill at 12pm in another 40 over match.
