Cricket Ireland have named a squad of 24 for an U13 Development Camp in Bready from Tuesday 19 until Thursday 21 July.

This follows the completion of the U13 Inter-Provincial Series earlier this week in the NW region. Leinster topped the table to claim the Sean Pender trophy for the 8th successive year, beating the NCU on NRR.
“It was a great effort by everyone involved to get any cricket played in the North West over the last few days because of the rain and congratulations to Leinster for winning the competition,” said Head Coach Michael Hingston. “We managed to get three of the six matches played – all of which were T20 – which made selection tricky, as the players from the NWCU and MCU had only one game each to show what they could do.

“Given the difficult conditions though there were some high quality performances in the matches – some exciting and strong batting, excellent controlled bowling in tough conditions and some outstanding ground fielding and catching.

“As a result of the issues facing selection, we picked players for the upcoming camp who had been in the Cricket Ireland Under 13 Winter Training programme, who were able to play or selected to play in the Interprovincial Series. These players have been joined by two new faces after some good performances in the competition – these players are Hugo Neville from Merrion (LCU) and Josh Drain from Ballymena (NCU). Hugo Neville took four wickets in the competition with his leg spin and Josh batted well against Leinster and took a couple of wickets against Munster.

“We look forward to getting all the lads up to Bready for three days to put them through their paces on the first day, play a couple of 45 over matches against strong NW U14 teams and finally see how the players go in a T20 match amongst themselves on the final day.

“This camp will test a range of skills, will hopefully be a positive challenge for the players and most importantly set the building blocks for new friendships and new personal goals, as these players take their first steps on the international pathway with Cricket Ireland – the coaches wish them all the best of luck for the three days.”
