Ireland Qualify for World Cup with Thailand win

The Dragons got off to the perfect start in the 2016 Toyota Super 3’s Series with an opening day win over the Typhoons after bowling out the Typhoons for 89 before reaching their target for the loss of just four wickets and with 26 overs to spare.
FINAL SCORECARD
Louise McCarthy and Lara Maritz impressed with the ball, both getting a wicket as they made their débuts for the Dragons after completing transfers from the Typhoons and Scorchers respectively, but it was Ruby Neville who impressed most picking up three wickets for just four runs.
Having being asked to bat the Typhoons looked to have made a positive start, but opener Leah Paul was run out by Ireland captain Laura Delany after some confusion between her and new Typhoons signing Anna Peterson.
Kate McKenna was next to fall for just 1, and when Laura Delany took a good running catch off the bowling to Rachel Delaney to dismiss the impressive Peterson for 24 and Robyn Lewis fell for a duck the very next ball momentum swung towards the Dragons with the Typhoons 52-4.
Ellen Ridgeway (21 not out) and Naiomi Matthews (6) seemed to be building a partnership as the Typhoons recovered, but Ruby Neville had other ideas when she came into the attack and took three wickets for just four runs to take what wind there was out of the sails.
Vanessa Kaleda (1) was then brilliantly run out by Lara Maritz (1-17) before the Malahide youngster came back into the attack to finish off the innings, bowling Louise Little to end the innings in the 30th over.
Chasing the modest total of 90 for victory the Dragons set out aggressively, with Ireland internationals Jenny Gray and Shauna Kavanagh making a positive start, surviving a run out change as Anna Peterson couldn’t gather the ball in time and broke the stumps without it.
The pair continued to run aggressively and apply pressure to the Typhoons, punishing any bad balls and collecting singles from many of the good ones, the tactic, risky at times paid off as the opening pair made 49 between them before Gray (14) was out caught in the covers off the bowling of Peterson shortly before tea.
Gaby Lewis came in at three and continued in the same vain, pushing the score to 68-1 at the tea break, leaving just 22 more runs to be got after the interval as the Dragons showed their intent and desire to finish the game and boost their run rates early in the season.
The Typhoons came out from the tea break refreshed and struck quickly to remove Kavanagh for 32, Lewis for 16 and then Ciomhe McCann for 2, but that was not enough to swing the game towards them, simply delaying the inevitable as Sophie MacMahon (5) and Laura Delany (5) patiently led the Dragons to a comfortable victory despite an excellent spell from Peterson.
