Ian McGregor has been named by Cricket Ireland as the interim head coach of the North West Warriors following the recent resignation of Bobby Rao, who takes up a coaching role in Hyderabad.
The appointment, made in conjunction with the North West Cricket Union, will see the current Warriors’ head selector and Ireland Under-19 assistant coach take charge of the side for the side’s remaining two matches which – both at home to Leinster Lightning.

McGregor will be assisted by David Scanlon, who has been involved in the Warriors’ set-up over the last number of seasons.

Commenting on his appointment, McGregor said: “I am extremely honoured and privileged to have been given the opportunity, albeit on an interim basis, to lead the Warriors in the final two games of the 2015 IP series. It’s a huge opportunity to carry on the great work carried out by Bobby Rao in assisting in the development of a group of hugely talented and motivated young cricketers”.

“We have two massive games left for varying reasons, and because we have under performed in the 50 over format we owe it to ourselves to rectify that. We are a much better team than the results in that format have shown”.

“The 3 day game has real importance given that we have an opportunity to win the title which considering our performances in the previous two seasons, will have fully vindicated our selection policy by further evidencing the development of our young side”.

“I’m really excited at the opportunity to work with a group of players that I know very well and hopefully assist them fulfil their potential”.
