Ireland Under-19 captain Jack Tector is looking forward to the Pepsi ICC Europe U19 Division 1 which gets underway in Jersey today.
During the nine-day tournament that commences on 11 July, Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands’ and Jersey will compete for the opportunity to progress to ICC U19 Cricket World Cup which will be hosted in Bangladesh between 22 January and 14 February 2016.
Ireland’s Jack Tector is looking forward to the tournament beginning against Jersey on Saturday, “We are excited to play six games of high quality cricket in a short space of time. It will be a great test for our guys, especially our bowlers and I can’t wait to get started. The fact that everyone gets to play each other twice is good as it means the best team will qualify,” said Tector.
The Irish team have been preparing for the tournament for a few months, “We have put in extremely hard work for this tournament. Over the winter we trained every week with squad members from our province at the national cricket facilities and then as an entire squad together at ‘national weekends’. Eight members of the Shapoorji Pallonji Cricket Ireland academy were taken to Sri Lanka in preparation for the tournament where we worked hard on playing spin and getting used to the different conditions,” said Tector.
