Ireland Women have fallen to a second defeat in as many games in the 2014 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 as a stunning century from Australian captain Meg Lanning has led the reigning champions to a 78 run win in Sylhet today.
The Southern Stars captain Meg Lanning batted superbly to lead her side to an imposing total against Ireland Women in their second ICC World Twenty20 group match this morning in Sylhet. Coming in a number 3 she made a stunning century from just 53 balls and finished the innings getting out for 126 in the final over as Australia ended up with 191 for 4 from their 20 overs.

Lanning was well supported by Delissa Kimmince who made 35 but the next highest score in the innings was just 12.

Lena Tice bowled an impressive spell of leg-spin to end with 1 for 25 from her 4 overs whilst the two other spinners also claimed wickets as Isobel Joyce finished with 1 for 32 and Eimear Richardson took 1 for 50.

Ireland needed nearly 10 runs an over from the start and despite the best efforts of Clare Shillington who made 22 and Isobel Joyce who top scored with 28 Ireland simply could not keep up with the scoring rate and ended their 20 overs on 113 for 7.

The scorecard in full is here.
