Throughout Cricket Ireland’s social media pages we’ve had a statistic filled countdown to Ireland’s first game at the ICC World Twenty20 tomorrow against Zimbabwe.

11 is the number of Sixes that Kevin O’Brien has hit in Twenty20 Internationals.

10 is the number of games that Ireland won in a row at the 2012 Qualifiers to seal victory in the UAE in March 2012.

9 is the score that Kevin O’Brien dismissed Kevin Pietersen for at the 2010 tournament in Guyana

7 is the number of county players in Ireland’s squad of 15 for the World Cup.

This is the 5th ICC World Twenty 20 since the inaugural tournament in 2007 – Ireland have qualified for the last 4 consecutively.

2007 – held in South Africa. Ireland = DNQ
2009 – held in England. Ireland = Super 8’s
2010 – held in West Indies. Ireland = Group Stage
2012 – held in Sri Lanka. Ireland = Group Stage
2014 – held in Bangladesh. Ireland = ????

4 for 18 were Alex Cusack’s (and Ireland’s tournament best) figures as Ireland very nearly beat Sri Lanka at Lord’s in the Super 8 phase in 2009.

In the 2010 Tournament, George Dockrell at the age of just 17 took 3 Wickets for just 16 runs as Ireland took on the hosts West Indies in Guyana.

2 is the number of tournaments where Ireland have been knocked out by a rain abandoned fixture, 2010 in the Caribbean against England (who went on to be champions) and again in 2012 against West Indies (who also went on to be champions!)

Ireland are the Number 1 Ranked Qualifier having won World Twenty20 Qualifiers in the UAE in November.
