Holders The Hills are one of five Leinster teams left in the hat for Friday’s draw, but only just. They claimed a nerve jangling one-wicket win over CIYMS at Milverton. The Hills were only chasing 126 but Stevie Dunn’s five-wicket haul put the visitors back in the game and in the end, The Hills’ last wicket pair had to get them across the line.

John Mooney starred for North County as they became the first team through with their entire match against Railway Union lasting less than 34 overs at Park Avenue. He destroyed Railway’s top order with a stunning spell of 5 for 13 in seven overs as Railway were bowled out for just 74. North County knocked the runs off quickly to cruise to an eight wicket win in 13 overs.

The all Sandymount Derby at Claremont road went YMCA’s way despite a Theo Lawson century for Pembroke helping them reach 234 for 8 from their 50 overs. YMCA captain Albert van der Merwe opened the batting after Reinhardt Strydom sustained an injury in the field. Van der Merwe and Alan Lewis both made fifties and YMCA were comfortable six-wicket winners.

Clontarf cruised into the last eight with a second dominant win over Phoenix in a week. Andrew Leonard top scored for the visitors with 28 but Phoenix could make only 120 despite winning the toss and choosing to bat first. Bill Coghlan hit an undefeated 60 as Clontarf won by eight wickets with more than 30 overs to spare.

The fifth Leinster side through to the last eight were Merrion who won a close encounter at Anglesea Road. John Anderson continued his strong form with 77, sharing an important fourth wicket stand of 125 with Dom Joyce (65) after Merrion had been wobbling on 44 for 3. The home team were all-out in the final over for 250. North Down looked to have the match in their hands at 197 for 5 thanks to Nick Larkin’s 96. but crucial wickets fell at the wrong time for the visitors and they fell 27 runs short.

There were three all Northern encounters and Fox Lodge are the only North West representatives left in the competition following a seven-wicket win over Carrickfergus. Johnny Robinson starred with the ball with figure of 5 for 34 and Carrickfergus were bowled out for 159. North West Warriors captain Iftikhar Hussain then set about winning the game in a hurry as his unbeaten 67 saw Fox Lodge home with more than 25 overs to spare.

Waringstown recorded a crushing victory over visitors Donemana as a good team batting performance led the home side to 283 with Greg Thompson top scoring with an unbeaten 78. Donemana will have been disappointed with their chase which saw wickets fall regularly and no batsman making more than 21 as they were bowled all out for 111.

The final name in the hat after a thrilling match match was CSNI who won by the closest margin of the day, beating Bready by just eight runs. South African Griffin Nieuwoudt made a magnificent century to help his side post 260 for 9 from their 50 overs. It was a case of close but no cigar for Bready as they fell eight runs short despite a second South African century in the match with Romano Ramoo scoring an unbeaten hundred but his side was not able to keep up with the rate and fell just short.

The draw for the Quarter Finals of both the Irish Senior Cup and the National Cup will take place this Friday during the lunch interval of the Ireland v Australia A match at Stormont.
