Ireland’s top order collapsed for the second time in two days to put the girls in green in hot water against Durham yesterday.
Ireland bowled first and kept it tight throughout the innings with miserly bowling, keeping Durham to 118-7 in the 50 overs.

Lucy O’Reilly impressed in her five-over spell, conceding only 12 runs while spinners Eimear Richardson and Melissa Scott-Hayward also bowled well.

Durham opened with one pace bowler and one spinner, and it was left-arm spinner Petherick who did most of the damage. She accounted for captain Isobel Joyce in her first over, and took another five wickets for a return of 10-2-17-6.

Vice-captain Mary Waldron and opening bowler Louise McCarthy had a late stand of 39 before McCarthy was run-out at the non-striker’s end. Lucy O’Reilly came in at the end and joined Waldron with a mountain to climb, and the pair added 22 to the total before Waldron played a false shot and Ireland were all out for 99, 20 runs short of a winning total.
