Young Leinster Lightning seamers Tyrone Kane and Eddie Richardson have been named in the Ireland A squad which plays Kent 2nd XI next week.
18 year-old Merrion all-rounder Kane impressed the watching selectors during the RSA Inter-Provincial clash at College Park last week with Ireland coach Phil Simmons in particular admiring his progress over the past year.

“Tyrone has obviously been working hard over the winter and has added an extra yard of pace which is vital at this level. He was the outstanding Irish player in the Under 19 World Cup in Australia, and deservedly won the Ireland Young Player of the Year award.”

Simmons was also delighted at the improvement in North County all-rounder Eddie Richardson: “Eddie is another who has undoubtedly been putting in the hard yards over the past few months. He’s an intelligent cricketer who is improving all the time and has made a great start to the season in Leinster cricket.”

Ireland A have a very strong seam attack, with senior internationals Max Sorensen, Stuart Thompson and Phil Eaglestone included for the three-day encounter at the County Ground in Cantebury.

Andrew Balbirnie returns to the squad after missing the game with MCC due to university examinations, while left-arm spinner Scott Campbell is named alongside North West Warriors team mate Andrew McBrine.

Skipper James Shannon and Max Sorensen both have a more pressing engagement before facing Kent – the pair are included in the senior Ireland squad for the RSA Insurance ODI Series against Pakistan which gets under way at Clontarf on Thursday.
