The hugely successful RSA National Cup began it’s second season in existence this past weekend with a huge amount being decided by bowlouts.
With a result a must on the day, a huge 10 games were decided by who could hit the stumps with the most consistency. Last year’s winners Muckamore were to take on Balbriggan, the team they beat in the final, in what was considered the tie of the round, but the rain would not let up and the champions made it through, hitting the stumps just once to win as Balbriggan failed to trouble the bails.
Other teams through to the second round after winning bowlouts are Dundrum, Laurevale, Cliftonville, Co. Kerry, Derriaghy, Mullingar, St. Johnston, Malahide and Dundrum.
Play did go ahead at six grounds, though all were rain-affected. Civil Service Dublin beat Newbuildings by 26 runs. Batting first, they scored 189-9 from 38 overs and Newbuildings could only manage 163. County Galway beat County Clare by 49 runs while NUI Galway beat Limerick Raiders by four wickets. Killyclooney beat Laois by seven wickets. Laois made 218-8 but Killyclooney reached the DL par score of 183 in 42 overs with one over and seven wickets to spare.
Ballaghadereen beat Midleton by five wickets and Rush beat Templepatrick. Templepatrick batted first and scored 207-7, but Rush passed the DL par score of 153 with nine wickets still in hand.
The draw for the second round of the RSA National Cup will take place tomorrow in Trinity at the RSA Inter-Provincial Championship match between Leinster Lightning and the North West Warriors. Stay with us at www.cricketireland.ie for the latest on the draw tomorrow.
