SOUTHAMPTON – Both the Irish and English sides featuring in today’s 3rd ODI paid tribute to John Hume with a minute’s silence before the match and the wearing of black arm bands.
Ross McCollum, Chair of Cricket Ireland, said:

“We were all saddened to hear of the passing of John Hume. He was a tremendous man with fantastic vision and a relentless commitment to peace. He will no doubt be remembered as a giant of his time, and his legacy will extend for many generations to come. On behalf of the Irish cricket community, we pass on our condolences to John’s family and friends.”

John Hume was not only a supporter of cricket, but played the sport himself – remebered as “a decent a slow left-arm bowler and middle-order bat”. You can read more about his cricket connections here.
