Kevin O’Brien will play in the Georgie Pie Super Smash Finals for the SKYCITY Northern Knights in New Zealand this weekend, after arriving in New Zealand just before the first match of the finals.
O’Brien, who impressed last week against a strong New Zealand A team in Dubai, has already taken part in the first match of the finals scoring 17 runs in 17 balls as the Knights lost to the Wellington Firebirds in the first preliminary final.
That is not the end of the road for O’Brien though, as the table topping Knights have a second chance at reaching the overall final on Saturday.
They will face off against the Auckland Aces in a sudden-death game for the chance to meet the Firebirds in the final.
All the matches will take place at Seddon Park in Hamilton, where Ireland will play India on 3rd March as part of the ICC Cricket World Cup. The winners of the Georgie Pie Super Smash will qualify for the Champions League T20 for 2015, held in India.
