Ireland Qualify for World Cup with Thailand win

Northern Knights captain Andrew White has announced his retirement from representative cricket with immediate effect.
White, who captained the Knights in all three formats since the re-introduction of inter-provincial cricket in 2013, was one of the standout performers for the Northern province over recent seasons playing a total of 30 matches in which he scored 682 runs while taking 38 wickets.
The Instonians all-rounder last year brought to an end a glittering international career after 231 appearances in the green shamrock, a record at the time, admitted that the time had come for him to step away from the representative game. Speaking to the Northern Cricket Union website, he said: “In representing the Northern Cricket Union I have given my absolute all to a province that I have loved playing for and have always been proud to represent.
“I will miss immensely walking out as a player and captain of the Northern Knights, however if I can be of any assistance now, or in the future with the direction that the Knights and NCU wish to move then I am more than happy to play my part.
“Due to the added pressures of family life along with undertaking responsibility of the Andrew White NCU Cricket Academy, I feel that now, it is important to dedicate my time in a new direction.”
Chairman of the Northern Cricket Union, Andy Clement, paid tribute to White saying, “Andrew was an obvious choice to captain the Knights, being highly respected both as a player and individual. He has led them with distinction over the past three years and his professionalism and commitment has been a model for others in the side.
“His support for the development of young players within the union has been clear to all and continues in this regard with his leadership of the Union’s Cricket Academy.”
