Ireland Qualify for World Cup with Thailand win

Ireland Under-19 batsman Adam Dennison believes the Boys in Green have what it takes to upset the odds at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup, which gets underway in Bangladesh next week.
Speaking at the team’s send-off at Dublin Airport, the Waringstown and Northern Knights player highlighted the match against Nepal as a crucial fixture if Ireland are to progress.
Dennison, who scored 12 in Ireland’s opening warm-up match against South Africa today, said, “Hopefully we can beat Nepal; we’ve played them in our last qualifying and I know we are definitely capable of beating them and anything can happen against India and New Zealand.
Ireland have been in Group D of the competition after Australia pulled out to of the competition on security grounds. That means Ireland come up against a fancied India side in their opening match on January 28th.
That match will be broadcast live on TV around the world, but Dennison remain unfazed by the opposition, “We hope to play as well as we can. We are going out there, we’ve a tough group, and we’ve got to believe we can beat these teams because if we don’t we might as well not get on the plane.”
He continued, “Cricket is a funny sport and anything can happen on the day so we’re hoping to put good performances in against all three teams and hopefully get through to the quarter finals.”
