Ireland’s Under-17’s powered their way to a comprehensive victory over their Dutch counterparts in the first of three matches taking place as part of the ICC Europe Challenge Series this week.
Bowling first at the Mardyke in Cork, Ireland quickly eased fears of another Dutch victory over an Irish team when they bowled out the Netherlands for just 90, comfortably reaching their target of 91 with six wickets remaining.
Rory Anders (4-13) and Varun Chopra (3-26) took seven wickets between them as the Dutch batsmen struggled to cope with the Irish attack that also included Josh Little and leg-spinner Ben White.
In pursuit of the modest target captain Stephen Doheny led from the front will a composed 46, helping the side to a six wicket win despite to loss of two quick wickets towards the end of the chase.
The series continues tomorrow with another 50-over tie, before a T20 match on Thursday, with both games starting at 11am.
