The second Super 3’s T20 day of the weekend may have been shortened by the weather, but there was no shortage of drama as the unbeaten Scorchers lost their 100% record in a tied match with the Dragons.
Batting first in difficult conditions the Dragons were only able to make 88 from their 20 overs, thanks mainly to Valmae Gee and Jenny Gray who led a recovery after another Kim Garth onslaught with the ball in the opening overs.
With the Scorchers one wicket down in pursuit of 89 to win, the rain came and the sides made for the pavilion with the Scorchers level with the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) par score. Knowing more cricket was needed to get a result the sides made a frantic dash to get re-started when the rain eased in what proved to be the last action of the day.
With the Dragons seemingly on top as the rain started falling again, Scorchers opener Anna Kerrison calmly drove Gee back down the ground for four and the sides left the field once more thinking that the Scorchers had won the game.
As it happens they were level once again and the game was eventually ended as a tie – with the points shared – when it was clear no further play, not even a super over, would be possible.
With around an hour of hope that play might be possible in the two Typhoons fixtures later in the day many supporters stayed in the clubhouse at Leinster CC as the players took lunch, but it soon became apparent that the rain was not going to ease, and the Dragons v Typhoons and Typhoons v Scorchers fixtures were called off without a ball being bowled.
Currently the Scorchers sit top of the table with 7 points, the Dragons sit second with 3 and Typhoons have 2 points with all teams having played four games out of the eight scheduled for the season.
The next action is set to take place at North Kildare when the Dragons and Scorchers clash in a 50-over tie on June 28th.
