Ian McGregor has been named National Selector with responsibility for the north-west as one of three new appointments announced by Cricket Ireland.
As well as joining the national selection panel, McGregor will also chair the North-West Warriors selection panel as part of the Inter-Provincial structure.

“Ian has a wealth of knowledge of players in the north-west, helped by his coaching and playing commitments over the last 30 years,” said Cricket Ireland Performance Director Richard Holdsworth.

“He is an excellent coach who is currently furthering his career with a BSc in Sports Coaching, and has been working as a Cricket Ireland Assistant Coach for the Ireland Under 19 programme. He has also been both the assistant coach and manager to the Warriors, but will now relinquish these roles. Ian will lead the selectors and add huge value supporting head coach Bobby Rao and the new assistant coach in driving the North-West Warriors forward over the coming years.”

Rob O’Connor and Chris Siddell have been appointed to the national women’s selection panel, with current selector Nigel Pyne stepping up to be Chairman of the National Women’s Selection panel.

“Nigel has been a women’s selector for some years, heads up our Emerging Players Programme and from time to time assists head coach Trent Johnston with the senior women’s team,” said Holdsworth.

“He has the right skill sets to lead the women’s selectors and ensure our talented players from all regions are being considered for international cricket.”

“Rob O’Connor has been coaching girls and ladies’ teams for the last six years in Leinster and has an in-depth knowledge of the players and teams. He will be joined by Chris Siddell, who although relatively new to the Leinster area, has 10 years coaching experience, and is currently coaching two ladies teams locally.

“Both Rob and Chris are regular watchers of women’s cricket and will add a considerable knowledge of the domestic game and local players to the national panel, as well as bringing different perspectives.”
