Cricket Ireland is pleased to announce that they have chosen the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation as their first-ever charity partner.

The aim of the initial year-long partnership is to help create awareness for the charity and the important services they provide throughout the expanding cricket community in Ireland. The Jack & Jill services include funding, home visits, advice, information, lobbying and bereavement support to over 300 families in Ireland. The partnership will also see Cricket Ireland supporting a range of fundraising ventures to all of the cricket family across Ireland.

Cricket Ireland CEO Warren Deutrom said they were honoured to be connected with such a worthwhile cause: ”It gives Cricket Ireland great pleasure to announce our partnership with The Jack and Jill Foundation. As our organisation grows and our participation numbers increase all across the country, Cricket Ireland are looking forward to promoting the Jack & Jill message and fundraising efforts to our players, clubs, members, Irish cricket fans and the general public. I have seen first-hand the incredible work that Jack & Jill does to look after families with special needs children, and we were delighted to offer our support to the Foundation’s wonderful efforts.”

Also commenting on today’s announcement Jonathan Irwin founder of Jack & Jill said: “We are delighted to forge links with Cricket Ireland’s community in Ireland. This partnership is about community helping community, neighbours helping neighbours, and you are never more than 10k away from a Jack & Jill family. On behalf of the 300 families supported by the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation nationwide, I want to say a big thank you for choosing Jack & Jill as your partner charity this year. It means a lot to us.

Jonathan spoke about his own experience in having a child with severe disabilities: “It is an uphill struggle and something I know all too well having cobbled together a care plan for my precious son Jack Irwin in 1996 until he passed away, at home, in December 1997. Jack’s care plan became the blueprint for the Jack & Jill home nursing care model and since then we’ve supported over 1600 children (from birth to 4 years old) and their families. Ours is a very positive, practical, home and community-based service, where our nurses design the child’s care plan around the family’s needs. Some people describe what we do as “the gift of time”. Time to do the normal things that others take for granted like sleeping, shopping, going to work, or taking in a cricket game at the weekend, with the peace of mind that your sick child is being well cared for at home.”
