Two days after their disappointment in the Senior Cup Final, St. Andrew’s College had reason to celebrate.
St. Andrew’s College won the Leinster Junior Cup for the second time in three years with a convincing win in a high-scoring game of cricket against Balbriggan Community School in the final played at Wesley College yesterday.
An outstanding innings from Aaron Bailey of 100 not out combined with some great batting from Geoff Cole and Rory Nicholls helped lead St. Andrew’s College to victory. It was a game of a very high quality played in glorious sunshine that saw nearly 350 runs be scored in less than 60 overs.

A chase of 210 in just 30 overs was always going to be a very big ask for Balbriggan Community School and despite the best efforts of Nathan Rooney and Andrew Sheridan who both batted well, the Balbriggan lower order was blown away by a sensational spell of fast-bowling from Under 13 player James Meyer who ended with 5 for 13 as St. Andrew’s College ran out winners by 79 runs.

St. Andrew’s College, 210 for 2 from 30 overs (A Bailey 100 not out from 99 balls, G Cole 56, R Nicholls 42, R-Richardson 1-36) beat Balbriggan Community School, 131 All Out 26.5 Overs (N Rooney 46, A Sheridan 40, J Meyer 5-13, D Evans 1-3) by 79 runs.
