Ireland Qualify for World Cup with Thailand win

Ahead of Ireland’s ICC Inter Continental Cup clash with Papua New Guinea at the end of this month, many of the side joined together today for a three day camp in London to help with preparations for the match.
With bowlers flying out to Australia tomorrow to spend a few extra days acclimatising and bowling outdoors, Assistant Coach Pete Johnston brought together those in the squad not travelling to take part in a batting camp ahead of following the bowlers to Brisbane next week.
Held at the KIA Oval in London, Gary Wilson spoke of the importance of the camp and how it will help to prepare the squad heading into a very busy period.
“With such an important few months ahead in both red ball and white ball cricket, it is important to get people in the same place and working together to prepare for the Inter Continental Cup match against PNG and the T20’s that follow to make sure we hit the ground running in Australia.”
The side will have a short preparation period in Australia before the ICup match, scheduled to start in Townsville on January 31st, and the camp will help the side to hit the ground running, getting everyone working together and building the team spirit before even getting on the plane.
The main focus of the London camp is batting, but players are also working hard on conditioning and fitness in the on-site gym at the KIA Oval, as well as fielding, taking advantage of the excellent facilities Surrey have to offer.
At the end of the camp, players will spend three days at home before travelling to Brisbane, where they will join up with the squad’s bowlers and Head Coach John Bracewell, who has been in Brisbane working with the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League.
The side will play a warm up game in Brisbane before heading to Townsville for the ICC Inter Continental Cup match against Papua New Guinea, where they will hope to extend their winning streak in the competition and maintain their 100% record.
