Ireland Qualify for World Cup with Thailand win

Defending champions the Scorchers will begin the defence of their trophy this weekend as the Toyota Super 3’s series continues in Merrion with the Scorchers v Typhoons getting underway at 1pm on Sunday.
The Typhoons will be looking to bounce back after their opening day defeat to the Dragons, when they were bowled out for 89. Their batting line up will look significantly stringer this week though, as Clare Shillington and Cath Dalton return to the squad after both were unavailable last week.
They will join Anna Peterson and Leah Paul in the top order, with Kate McKenna also expected to round off a very strong batting line-up after recovering from a slight injury during the week. Shillington has taken over as captain and coach of the side this year and will be looking to make an impact after a disappointing start to the season last week against the Dragons.
The Scorchers will carry the confidence of finishing last season as champions into the game, although they will have a few new faces in their side after some changes in personnel over the winter.
Brooke Hepburn has not returned from Australia, although Erin Lawlor will join the Scorchers, although not until after their opening match this weekend.
Leah Paul and Robyn Lewis made the move to the Typhoons, while Ellen Ridgeway also moved to the side in blue before last week’s series opener. The Scorchers have brought in some younger talent to replace them, with Aiofe Beggs, Anna Kirk, Cara Murray and Rhiannon Pope all brought into the squad and available for Sunday.
The game gets under way at 1pm at Merrion Cricket Club in Dublin, with the clubhouse open to all and entry is free for everyone.
