The Women’s Super 3’s Competition has reached its finale with the Scorchers needing to win the final match of the season in order to win the competition ahead of the Dragons.
Facing the Typhoons on Sunday at YMCA CC in Dublin, the Scorchers need to bounce back from defeat against the Dragons and beat a strong Typhoons team in order to win the trophy outright from the Dragons, whose late season surge has seen them draw level on points with the Scorchers.

Even a narrow defeat may be enough for the Scorchers, who go into the game with a slightly better net run rate that the Dragons, but captain Kim Garth is not considering that an option.

“We want to win the game regardless of whether it affects the final standings or not, we always play to win and will go into the game looking for nothing less than that” said Garth, who has been one of the players of the tournament so far.

The Typhoons will be boosted by the presence of Cath Dalton who will be making her Super 3’s debut. The Middlesex all-rounder qualifies for an Irish passport and has made herself available for the Super 3’s tournament.

Having started the season slowly, the Typhoons have found their strength to be in the shorter format of the game, beating both the Scorchers and Dragons in T20 games, but have yet to win in the 50-over format. They are out of contention for the title, but skipper Elena Tice confirmed the side are still heading into the game looking for a win.

“We have come on a lot throughout the season putting in some good performances, particularly against the Scorchers the most recent T20. It would be great to finish the season on a high and prove prove a point both as individuals and as a team.

“The fact that a win could decide who becomes champion is definitely a motivational factor heading into the weekend, we will be as up for this game as any Super 3’s game and we look forward to the challenge.”

The game will see up to 13 players who have represented Ireland at senior level this season, and several more from under 17 and 19 level, competing against each other in what has been a hugely competitive and exciting tournament so far this season.

The match will get underway at 1pm in YMCA, with free entry for all spectators, and all welcome to come and support.
