Ireland Qualify for World Cup with Thailand win

Tomorrow, the 3rd ODI between Ireland and South Africa will be played in Malahide. South Africa has moved 2-0 up in the ODI series, after a 68 run win at Claremont Road on Sunday.
The star of the show in that game was Mignon Du Preez. The former captain made 116* (95) to continue her fine form in the series. She also scored 55 (41) in the 1st T20I, which went down to the final ball of the game. Chloé Tryon continued where she left from the 1st ODI. She made 52 (45) while Trisha Chetty (49) and Laura Wolvaardt (35) had an opening stand of 65 to get the South Africans up to 272/6 in their innings. Suné Luus once again kept it tight for the visitors. Her 2-47 in 10 overs moves her up to having 8 scalps so far in the ODIs against Ireland this summer.
For Ireland, the top order hasn’t quite fired in the ODI leg of the series. They collapsed to 25/3 after 8 overs, and it was always tough to come back from then. However, Mary Waldron made her highest score of the series. She top scored for the Irish with 42 (72) with Clare Shillington the other batter to get a score above 20. She made 41(36) to have another good day with the bat against South Africa. She also made 48 (41) in the 2nd ODI, where Ireland won by 20 runs. In the end, Ireland were all out for 204. If the top order can have greater consistency, it gives the team a great chance to take another win off of the South Africans on home soil.
On the bowling front for Ireland, Ciara Metcalfe was able to keep it tight in the 2nd ODIt. Her 2-40 in 10 overs were the best figures for the Irish team, with Lucy O’Reilly also taking 2 wickets. Her wickets came in the 30th over, where she took two in two balls. The first was the wicket of Chetty, while the other wicket off the next ball was that of Andrie Steyn, out LBW. She finished with 2-65 from 10 overs. The Irish team have been able to take wickets in clusters against the South Africans, but not quite put them away. They will need to do this to restrict the visitors to a modest total.
After the the 3rd ODI in Malahide, the final match of the series in the Vineyard on Thursday. There is free entry for all of the games in the ODI series, including tomorrow’s game in Malahide.
