Pakistan send strong warning to Ireland

Despite only one of the two scheduled ODI’s against Scotland in Edinburgh getting any play, Pakistan have done more than enough to send a stern warning to Ireland that even in conditions foreign to them, they will be the side to beat.
Pakistan didn’t have it all their own way however even though they got off to the best possible start, winning the toss and deciding to bat with openers Jamshed and Farhat taking no time to acclimatise to the conditions cruising to 50 for 0 and setting Pakistan on their way to a big score. A disciplined bowling effort from the Scots led by their now all-time ODI leading wicket taker Majid Haq who took 3 wickets left Pakistan in trouble of not getting past 200.

It took the outstanding innings of the match from Pakistan captain, Misbah-Ul-Haq who finished with 81 not out to leave Pakistan on top but not by much with their final score of 231 for 7 from their 50 overs.

Scotland’s hopes of an upset were boosted by a 52 run second wicket partnership between Josh Davey and Kyle Coetzer which kept them on target with the required run-rate. However it was the outsanding Pakistani bowling attack that looked truly world-class as Misbah Ul-Haq shuffled his pack of bowlers to take wickets regularly and see Pakistan home to a 96 run win.

World Number 1 Saeed Ajmal taking 3 for 25 and the two out and out quick left-armers Junaid Khan and Mohammad Irfan looking real dangers throughout their spells.

The Second One-Day International at the same venue of the Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh was a complete wash-out without a ball bowled.

Pakistan arrive in to Dublin tomorrow morning and will be looking forward to their two crunch RSA Insurance ODI Series matches against Ireland at Clontarf on Thursday the 23rd of May and Sunday the 26th of May. The weather forecast is good at this stage and bumper crowd numbers are expected on both days.
